WKL Texel

The 2nd stop of the World Kiteboarding League tour was on the beautiful island Texel, the Netherlands. Between the 18-23 of September the best kiteboarders came together on this small island. Typical dutch conditions, a rough sea and cold tempratures. I was pretty stoked when they annouched to have a stop in my own country. Finally my training in the dutch conditions would have been in my advantage compared to all the riders from abroad. Altough he wind conditions were not really helping us during the event. If there is wind, Texel is the place where the wind is the strongest. But unfortunately we were unlucky with mother nature and the wind didn’t show up. Hurricane Irma took it all? We will never know, all we can do is hope for better conditions next year. Besides the not-suitable conditions it was a really fun events with a great atmosphere and positive vibes!

During the 2nd day of the event we had a light sea breeze to run a few heats. I was up in heat 3 with my biggest size, 13m. The wind was pretty good for a few hours but unfortunately it decreased quickly after that. In the middle of heat 2 they cancelled the heat due to unsuitable conditions. That’s competition, sometimes you have amazing conditions and sometimes not! With our sport we need mother nature to be with us ;-).

I was helping my sponsor at the Cabrinha booth to represent all the new 2018 material and did a few interviews with different local radio channels and newspapers during the event. I hope we will have better luck next year and we can show some great action on the dutch waters!

Cheers,

Rens
