About Rens

Rens van der Schoot is one of the best kiteboarders in the Netherlands. He started at a young age. His parents have a beach house were he used to go in school vacations to play with small powerkites on the beach. The feeling of a kite always impressed him and he always wanted a bigger powerkite to feel the power by using the wind. Behind him, kitesurfers were playing in the ocean. His dream was to join them in the water, but his parents still finded him too young. At the age of 12 he convinced them to take lessons with his brother and from that moment his biggest passion started. Day in day out practising and playing in the water on windy days.

Today, Rens is working hard to advance his skills and develop his career as an professional kiteboarder. On the water he is training hard to reach his goals in competition and off the water his chilled and out-going personality makes it fun to hang around with.

Worldwide competitions

After years of practising and fun on the water, Rens started to do national and international competitions at the age of 15. He became 5th in the European Junior Championships and 2 years later he became European Junior Champion Freestyle. From that year Kiteboarding became a serious part in his life. In 2015 he started to receive wildcards for several World Cup events to gain more experience in competition and improve himself as an athlete.

Nowadays, Rens qualified himself for the Freestyle World Kiteboarding League together with the 24 best riders in the world. Besides Freestyle he showed great performance in Big Air competitions like the Redbull Megaloop Challenge as well.
